Day 2 of Feeling Good

So, it is Sunday, and it is the day we set our clock backs one hour, here in Ohio. And tomorrow, I don’t have to be any where until 10 AM. This is called looking at the bright side of tomorrow, because I have a conference for work in Cincinnati (about an hour and a half from where I live), and I was going to sleep at my bff, Liz’s house tonight and then go to the conference. Liz lives in Cincinnati close to where the conference is located. But, I have to go to my doctor tomorrow, so I am missing the sleepover and half of the conference.
So, as I said in the beginning of this paragraph, looking on the bright side – I don’t have to be any where until 10 AM tomorrow.

Today will be full of reading magazines.

Catching up on my Feedly feed.

Doing laundry.
Grading (so much grading!).
Working out (First time in weeks!)
Cleaning.
Paperwork.
Watch DVR. (if I put this on my to do list, it makes it seems like I accomplished something by sitting on my arse watching tv)

This morning my husband made me breakfast. He is so good at making scrambled eggs. They are so fluffy. This picture isn’t pretty, but trust me, it was delicious. They were topped with Monterey Jack cheese, freshly shredded (so much better than pre-shredded).
And the toast has Trader Joe’s Apricot Preserves. I probably should have only had one piece of toast…but I tracked it all on Fitness Pal.

My mother, brother and I are all using the site now, so that has been cool. And my dad is using another app, Lose it. It is nice when we are all trying to lose weight because we eat together often.

Well, I am off to read feedly and watch DVR for a bit…
I hope everybody is having a great Sunday!!

I miss the Oprah Winfrey Show.

I went out last night with my girlfriends, and had a lovely time. We talk about silly stuff and serious stuff, and always end up laughing. A lot.
I’ve said it before, but it is just good for the soul.
Especially since a few friends joined that I don’t get to see that often. It’s nice to get a snapshot of where they are at this point in their life, even if they are going through rough times.
When I got home I was a little nauseous, so I stayed up to drink a ginger ale. I flipped on my DVR, which I’ve been ignoring due to the Alias marathon I’ve had over the last few days.
It was 100% full. (Ignore that, Beth FS : ) )

I have my DVR set to tape The Oprah Winfrey Show on OWN. I don’t watch them all, but every once in a while, I watch them. Last night, the one I watched was the surprise show her staff did for her that was 2 episodes long, and star studded. The show was such a display of what an amazing person she is. When the people who work for you put that much love and thought into a tribute to you, it speaks for itself.
I know some people aren’t Oprah fans. And I can sometimes see their points, but usually I am amazed at how people can turn something positive into something negative.
However, I am a true believer that she is a good person. She deserves her success. She does so much that we know about, but she also does so much for others that we don’t know about. She has made a positive change in the lives of so many people.
Anyway, there are so many talk shows, and some are good, and some are funny. But, there has been no Oprah replacement. All of the talk shows, to me, show you what a gift the Oprah Winfrey Show was to us viewers.
I’ve enjoyed many shows on OWN, especially Life Class, and I’ve enjoyed her interviews, and the Behind the Scenes of the Oprah Winfrey Show. So, I get my doses of O.

But, I miss the Oprah Winfrey Show part of my day.

Happy Sunday to you!
I have a really, really long to do list for the next few days.
One of the things I am going to do is sell a few clothing items on Ebay. I am so nervous for some reason.
Have any of you done it before? What’s your feedback? Any pointers?

Friday night with my boyfriends Jimmy, Dave, and Michael

Friday night…watching a DVR’d Jimmy Fallon, and he is playing a game with Kiera Knightly, DAVE MATTHEWS, and MICHAEL BUBLE. It’s just too many cute boys being entirely cute.

I love Friday nights…staying up later than normal, and knowing I can sleep in and have a slow morning tomorrow!!

And every day I am feeling better and better since being sick…and I am so happy about that.

I hope everybody enjoys their Saturday mornings!

Takin’ What They’re Givin’

…cause I’m workin’ for a livin’.  That’s right, I just quoted Huey Lewis and the News.  Don’t hate.

I have been a blogging slacker because late November through December was a bit of a big life transition for me.  I had a birthday (thanks for the super-kind birthday post, Beth WA), there was a lot of Christmas preparation, and in the midst of it all, I was in the process of making a somewhat significant career change.  This past week represented the culmination of those efforts. I went from working part-time to full-time, from a job that left me feeling drained to one with an organization that I have been a believer in for a long time.  While starting a new job can be stressful and intimidating, for the first time in my career I feel like I am where I am meant to be.

The flip-side is that the FS family is adjusting to settling into a new normal…new job, new schedule, new child care, less free time, more mommy-guilt, and a need for a lot more organization and planning to make it all work.  I’m nowhere near having it all figured out yet, but I’m working hard on letting go of the feeling that it all needs to be perfect all of the time from the start, and accepting instead that it will be a process for everyone involved. I’m mostly struggling with figuring out how to manage meal planning/preparation, homework, and housework while still having time for family fun and relaxation.

Is it bad that on top of these adjustments, I’m also struggling with the TV that I’m missing? There are lots of shows that I’ve never watched that I’d like to start watching or catch up on, and I feel like I’m missing out.   In no particular order, the top five are:

  1. Revenge
  2. The Good Wife
  3. Parenthood
  4. American Horror Story
  5. Ringer (thanks to a repeated and ringing endorsement by Beth WA)

Over Christmas vacation I DID finish watching Friday Night Lights.  It was the best six months of watching five seasons of  television that I have ever spent.  If you haven’t watched FNL, you must stop reading right now and go start.

And one more struggle…I am an avid reader and am finding that about ten minutes of reading at night is all I can squeeze in before falling asleep.  (I acknowledge that I could step away from iAssociate 2 and Words With Friends to make a little more book time in the evenings…)  I also think I am in need of more captivating reading.  I am currently reading Mockingjay and it just isn’t holding my interest like the first two books in The Hunger Games series did.  Maybe I waited too long between finishing Catching Fire and starting this one? Or maybe I just need some better book recommendations.

So if you have any working full-time time-management tips, prioritization suggestions for the above mentioned TV shows, or recommended reading, please share!

Random things I’m loving right now

No posts for over a week, then two posts in one day, what?  I’m random like that. And so is this list of things that I am loving at this moment:

1. New Girl – This show is hilarious.  Zooey Deschanel is hilarious.  I’ll be honest, before this show, I knew her only as a singing elf and wife to Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie.  I thought, “Really, Ben went all Hollywood?” I was so wrong.  She is quick, and quirky, and delightful, and darling, and has super fabulous style, and a fantastic voice to boot (her songs only add to the hilarity of the show).  My sincere and deepest apologies to both Ben and Zooey for my pre-judgment.

2. Urban Decay Naked eye shadow palette – I have been eying this for some time.  No pun intended.  My fantastic mom bought it for me on a recent Sephora trip.  The texture of these shadows is divine.  Like butter.  Not greasy butter that will melt off of your eyelids after an hour of wear, but smooth shadow that applies perfectly and lasts all day when Urban Decay or other eye shadow primer is used.  There are seriously four million different looks you can create with just this one palette.  I think the hype is true, you could probably get rid of all of your other eye shadows and just use this one for the rest of your life.  Or until it runs out.

3. Pinterest – This one comes with a warning.  If you think Facebook is addicting, approach Pinterest with extreme caution.  It’s an amazing way to record and organize pictures of all of your favorite things, all in one place.  It’s a way to get new ideas for everything, from a fall look to what to make for dinner.  It’s a way to discover things about yourself, from what you really think makes a home beautiful, to the fact most of your Hollywood crushes sort of resemble each other.
So really, it’s healthier than Facebook.  It’s not stalking, it’s self-discovery!

4. Blink-182 Neighborhoods – Mark, Tom, and Travis did not disappoint with this new album.  It is pop-punk perfection.  It’s a perfect mixture of old Blink and new Blink, with a definite Cure influence.  It is great musical accompaniment on the treadmill, in the car, or rocking out in the kitchen while making pumpkin oatmeal.

5. Friday Night Lights – So, I’m totally late to the party on this one.  I heard all the
hype but never watched when it was actually on real TV.  I actually just started watching it on Netflix streaming a few months ago, and I now spend just about every evening in Dillon, Texas.  I’m not a big football person, but this show is about so much more than football.  It is brilliantly written, the actors are amazing,  and the characters are so real. I don’t even know the words to explain it.  It is so relatable, and funny, and heart-wrenching.   I know that everyone who knows me is probably sick of hearing me talk about it.  But at least twice during each episode, I turn to my husband and say, “I can’t believe how good this show is,” or “This is seriously the best show ever on television,” or some other similar exclamation about its awesomeness. I am not exaggerating when I say that it is probably the best show I have ever watched.  No, I am not forgetting about Alias.

What random things are you loving right now?

Fall Schedule: New TV Shows

Fall Schedule: New TV Shows – Previews and Schedules for Fall 2011 TV Shows.

I love fall, right along with Beth FS.  I love the weather, the colors, the foods, football, Thanksgiving (my favorite holiday), and the fall television line up.  Even though I don’t watch television like I used to, I still enjoy it more than the average person.  But rather than watch shows when they are on, I usually just DVR all of the shows I want to watch and watch them when I have time.  This has it’s pros and cons.  It’s pro is that television has less of a control over me and my schedule.  (Side story: I distinctly remember in junior high that my friends were NOT allowed to call me between 9:00 and 9:30 on Tuesday nights as I would be watching Roseanne.)  It’s con is that television is a bit less exciting to me.  I kind of miss the suspense, waiting between commericals, and for the show to be on the next week.  And now, a lot of times, I just wait until a show is on Netflix and just watch the series consecutively.

One of the last series I remember watching before DVR, and also my favorite show of all time was “Alias” with Jennifer Garner, Victor Garber, and Michael Vartan.  Beth FS & Mr. FS and I were loyal followers of the show(this was before Mr. WA was in the picture), and often spent the moments following the end of the show on the phone with one another saying, “Holy CRAP! WHAT JUST HAPPENED?”  We even dressed up as the characters for the last episode of the series.  Yes.  We are dorks, but it was so fun.  Here we are.  We look so different.  Except, Mr. FS.  He just got glasses, so this is exactly what he looks like.

JUST KIDDING! His glasses don’t look like that.

Anyway, I was looking at this website to see some of the new shows that are going to start this fall, and I found out the ones that I am most excited about are because of who is in it, not because of the plot.

Here are some of the shows I plan on DVRing the pilot, and then making the decision from there.

2 Broke Girlstv guide photo

This is my only exception.  I just wanted to watch this because the title reminded me of when my best friend and I moved to California after college, and never had any money, but always had the time of our life!

Hart of Dixie – I don’t even know what this is about, except that I read that the creator of the O.C. made it, and Rachel Bilson is in it.  I was a huge fan of the O.C., so I am going to give it a chance.

Speaking of Alias, the creator of Alias has a show called “Person of Interest” coming out this fall, which is my next pick to watch the pilot this fall.  It is about some sort of technology or surveillance thingie that is created to identify people who will commit a future crime.

Other shows that I am interested in checking out are “Prime Suspect,” with Maria Bello.  I have been a fan of hers since Coyote Ugly.  I don’t know what it is about her, but I always feel like I know her in real life.

I also love Emily Van Camp, originally from the show Everwood with Treat Williams.  She was also on Brothers and Sisters.  But, now she has a new show called “Revenge,” that I am going to watch.

Lastly, Unforgettable, with Poppy Montgomery.  I don’t know what it is about Poppy, but I just love her.  Without a Trace was one of my favorite shows.  And don’t tell anybody, but I loved her in the Lifetime Movie, “Murder in the Hamptons.” It was like a combination of two of my favorite things, Lifetime Movie + Snapped.

Well, I still have to go make up 2 math quizzes, and go to bed, and get up at 5:20.  And I am exhausted!  I can’t wait until the weekend.  Although, I have to get up SUPER early for a 10K on Saturday morning.  We have to be there at 6:00 AM!  I already have a nap scheduled on Saturday.

I hope everybody is having a great week!

What shows are you looking forward to? New or Old?
