2.3 and 37.3

Good morning!! It’s my favorite time of the week.

Saturday morning.
Although, I was a little nervous because it is my weigh in day, and I had a pretty good week, but last night I went out to dinner with my mom and husband, and I had cocktails. 4 of them. And pizza. Oops. I stayed in my points, but I used all of my activity points this week – which was a lot.

Anyway, I lost 2.3 lbs, for a total of 9.1 since I got back from Houston. And I calculated that I’ve walked 37.3 miles since I got back from Houston.
WOO HOO!!!

So, last weekend I did something really fun – I went to a fundraiser for the Stephanie Spielman Foundation/Breast Cancer Research put on by my bff’s aunt, who has cancer. It is a giant party/dance for women only, and it is SOOO freakin’ fun. My friends and I go every year and dance our faces off.
Here are some pictures:

I’ve been having trouble getting my niece to face time me, and when I see her I am going to beat her butt. ha ha… Just kidding. But, here is a picture I got from a call this week.

She is so freakin’ funny.

Well, today I am going to have lunch with my cousin, Bridget, and then we are going to go for a walk. YAY for activity points.

Have a great weekend, y’all!!!!

Continuous Improvement.

Well, day two of exercising and counting calories has been making me feel a lot a better about life in general. I haven’t been doing super great, but I have been doing…
Last night, after I had my calories done for the day, I had pretzels and dip. Boo! But, I still counted them out and measured them.
And today, I am a little over. But, still tracking every thing.
It’s the weekend, and I always do worse on the weekend. Hopefully, tomorrow I am able to stay in my calorie count.

I have walked both days (and even Friday). I didn’t walk that long or that fast, but I walked. I could tell today was even easier than yesterday. Although, my legs are killing me for another reason.
This workout:

I cut it out of Weight Watchers magazine. It doesn’t look like much, but when you are completely out of shape, it makes it so that your legs hurt like nobody’s business. My inner thighs are soooo sore. Squats are difficult for me. But, it is a good hurt. I feel like I am heading somewhere.

Tonight for dinner I made pulled pork in the crock pot. It was a new recipe, and it was good, but not great. The meat was delicious, and tender, which helped. I served it on a kaiser roll, with cole slaw from the local fried chicken joint. I also served creamed corn from a can, which is one of my favorite foods ever, and I haven’t had it in a while because my husband doesn’t like it. I make it then add a bit of butter, sugar, salt, and pepper. Mmmmm. And also, we had Bob Evan’s mashed potatoes. I am so full right now.

Well, I am off to do a little grading. I’ve managed to procrastinate, and put it off until right now. 7:00 Sunday night. Oops.

Have a good Monday!

I kept a promise.

I did the thing I am worst at today – I kept a promise to myself.
I tracked my food on Fitness Pal, and stayed within my calories.
I exercised!!!! with a good friend.
I did work at work, and didn’t bring any home.
YAY.
It’s amazing how one day back on the wagon makes you feel so much better. Not to mention, when I got on the scale this morning for the first time in weeks, it was 2.1 lbs lower than I thought I was. So, I am already 2.1 lbs into my 30 lb goal. WOO HOO.

Today was a good day.
And, here is why…

* I was caught up with grading when I went into school this morning.
* I had a few kids in my room before school and I was able to help them without feeling rushed.
* My lesson plans were pretty laid back today.
* I tracked my calories.
* I ate fruits and vegetables.
* I went on a walk with my friend, Marianne.
* I am ’bouta make a good dinner.

This weekend we cleaned out my gramma’s assisted living apartment, as she has to move to the side of the home that is full time care. I found this picture of her when she was a baby. She has always been very ornery, or as she will tell you, she was a “brat.” This totally captures her ornery side.

I still have a lot of work to do for my UD class this week, but I am glad that it was a good Monday.

I hope you had a good Monday, too.

UPDATED: I can’t believe I forgot to mention the highlight of my day. My best girl, Ava, face timed me without me begging her to do it!!! It was a complete surprise!!!
I miss that girl!!

Try something new.

Since I love to eat, and I love to read about food, in blogs, books, and magazines, it is rare that I come across a food that I have not seen before. Well, today, at a retreat center cafeteria, I had some delicious soup.
It was Buffalo Chicken Soup. And I loved it.
My husband did not think it sounded good at all, but if he saw the texture, I think he might change his tune. It was a bit cheesy, but not a creamy soup.
I am now on the hunt for a recipe for it, as I think it would be so good with a baguette.

I was at the same retreat center I go to once a month on a Tuesday for a professional development group that I am a part of, and it was the first time I’d been there since I had my miscarriage. It was there that I began miscarrying, and then I didn’t go to school the rest of the week. That was such a stressful week. I’d be lying if I said it was a little hard to be back at that retreat center, and that stress manifested itself in the form of a migraine. I came home and fell asleep within 5 minutes of walking in the door, and stayed asleep for an hour and a half.
Right now is the first time in two weeks I haven’t felt tired.
I was supposed to go on a walk with a good friend, but I had just woken up from my nap, I had no idea where my winter walking clothes are, my husband was making dinner, and I have about a million papers to grade. We are going to go tomorrow, though, and I can’t wait. It’s been TOO long since I’ve exercised. And I miss her, as she was my exercise buddy for a long time! We used to walk 5K’s all the time, AND we used to walk at 5:40 in the morning every morning! Even when it was really cold.
I don’t miss getting up that early, but I do miss seeing her and doing daily exercise.

Anybody have some good soup recipes they’d like to share?
(HINT HINT ASHA)

PS This cracked me up…it is so me!

Exercise: Combination Friday/Saturday Post

I have a weird relationship with exercise.  I love it.  I hate it.  You see, I love the way I feel after exercise, and in fact, I love most forms of exercise.  But, there is this damn voice inside my head that I have to fight each day to exercise.  Sometimes the fight lasts hours, sometimes minutes.  And sometimes, the voice wins, and I don’t exercise at all.

It seems like the more days I exercise in a row, the easier the fight with the voice is.  However, if I skip just ONE day, it’s like starting from scratch.  I don’t know why that is.

This is why I am so happy to have found this “water walking” with one of my bff’s.  I love going, and don’t think about not going.  And it has given me the motivation and energy to exercise on the off days.  If you’ve ever read the book, The Spark, by the founder of sparkpeople.com, he talks about doing only 10 minutes of exercise or physical activity but doing it EVERY single day.  He says that using the success from that small victory helps build momentum for bigger victories.  And that when you commit to those ten minutes, often you end up doing more.  The book is actually excellent and based on a bunch of brain research.

But, anyway-

here is what i did for exercise this week:

Tuesday:  Walk 60 minutes in water

Wednesday: Walk 60 minutes outside

Thursday: Walk 90 minutes in water

Friday: not a darn thing

Saturday: Walk 60 or so minutes in water (it started thundering so it ended early)

My plan for this week:

Sunday: Either Walk or do one of my Exercise Videos, start push up challenge APP on iPad.

Monday: Either Walk or do one of my Exercise Videos, start push up challenge APP on iPad.

Tuesday:  Water Walking

Wednesday: Either Walk or do one of my Exercise Videos, start push up challenge APP on iPad.

Thursday: Water Walking

Friday: I will be at a hotel, and maybe if I feel like it I will walk on their treadmill or in their pool.

Saturday: I will be walking around with friends on my girls’ weekend!
